sculptures

an african influence is clearly visible in my sculptures.

first there is my love of the classical african subjects: animals and human beings. i also look for a similar non-literal approach, a form-language which moves more strongly than realism. finally the african playfulness regarding materials and subject is an indispensable element.

these past years i have also become fascinated by painted sculptures. inspired amongst others by the beautiful polychromatic romanesque sculptures in museu frederic marès in barcelona. the painting usually takes up much more time than the form itself. 

another development are the playful constructions. deceptively playful on the one hand, since these are the most time-consuming sculptures.  deceptively on the other hand sometimes because of a serious underlayer.
